The Archdiocese of New York is looking to close the church on South Lexington Avenue. The proposed closure is part of a re-organization plan announced by the Archdiocese last year.
The church's faithful are praying for a miracle to keep it open. "Our mothers and fathers and grandparents literally built this church with their own hands, and so there is a real investment here, and families have been coming for many years," says church trustee Andrew Morzello.
Timothy Cardinal Dolan says a decline in attendance and a shortage of priests are reasons for the proposed closures and mergers of churches across the archdiocese.
