Parents sue East Ramapo school board for ‘fiscal mismanagement’
Parents in the East Ramapo Central School District filed a lawsuit in a bid to force the state to fix what they allege is "fiscal mismanagement" by the East Ramapo school board.
Legal papers filed in Albany last week ask the state Supreme Court to compel the Department of Education and Board of Regents to intervene in the troubled district.
The parents cited the findings of an Education Department investigation and the recommendations of state-appointed monitor Dennis Walcott in their suit.
The parents want the monitor to receive veto power over the school board's decisions.
The board is dominated by Orthodox Jewish members who send their own children to private yeshiva schools.
