A growing number of parents are choosing to opt their children out of New York state's Common Core testing.
Children in the state's nearly 700 school districts took the exams Tuesday. Students in grades three through eight took the English portion of the test.
Opponents of the testing have urged parents to keep their children home as a form of protest. News 12 has learned that as many as one-third of parents in some districts have chosen to opt out their children.
Many parents and teachers have said that they feel the tests have no real educational value.
Some parents say they are also confused about how to opt out of the test, whether they just need to send an email or if a student has to directly tell their teacher.
