Yonkers is two weeks from wrapping up the school year, and the district is still facing a $26 million deficit.
Several parents say they are crunching the numbers themselves in search of a way to prevent the cuts slated for next year.
"I will go to my death saying that neither the federal government or the state government, the city government [did] the right thing by their children," says Yonkers parent Marla Hurban.
Hurban says the city should fill much of the $26 million shortfall this year.
According to Mayor Mike Spano, the city is already spending more on the district by taking over costs the district used to pay for and paying off some of its debt.
"We have contributed record aid to our schools, never not one penny less, and we'll continue to this year more than we have contributed in history," he says.
A total of 101 school employees could lose their jobs without the money. Layoff notices must be sent 30 days prior to any teachers being laid off.
