Parents learn of sex offender in Peekskill community
Parents in a Peekskill community are outraged after learning that a convicted sex offender is living in their neighborhood. Police haven't released the house number, but say Jose Yulan, a registered level-2 sex offender, lives somewhere on Oakwood Drive. The neighborhood is filled with children and parents are angry they weren?t informed a sex offender was living in the area. Peekskill police arrested 62-year-old Yulan Thursday after an investigation revealed he had moved to Oakwood Drive last October and never notified the authorities of his change of address. Police say Yulan previously lived in an apartment building on South Street in the city. Police say they normally advise the public about sex offenders in the community on an annual basis and then direct them to a state Web site for more information. They say in this case, they reached out to the media to inform them of the arrest. The media, in turn, notified the public.
Yulan was released on $750 bail and is due back in city court next week.
