The fate of the Palisades Mall expansion project is now in the hands of residents in Clarkstown.
The Clarkstown Town Board unanimously agreed to lift a decades-old square-footage restriction Thursday night. In November, the decision will be up to the voters.
This is the second time residents are voting on the mall expansion – the first was back in 2002 and the proposal was shot down.
If Clarkstown residents approve the measure, the mall would be able to exceed 1.8 million square-feet of leasable space and reconfigure its lay out.
Supervisor George Hoehmann says he wants residents to know that voting to approve the plan doesn't mean the mall will have free range.
"They’d still have to go through the planning process and environmental review,” he told News 12. “…It’s not like they have a blank check."
Developer Pyramid Management did not have a comment about the vote in November.
