Overnight fire rips through Tuckahoe day care center
An overnight fire severely damaged a Tuckahoe day care center and now 48 families need to find alternative care for the their kids.
Officials say the fire broke out at the Eastchester Child Development Center around 11:45 p.m. Monday. They say the fire appears to have started in a light fixture. The reading and play areas were destroyed by the flames.
The center was going to be closed next week for the holidays. Ironically, plans were already in the works to move the entire facility at the end of January and build a new one. Workers at the center say with the fire, the plans are now in overdrive.
The center?s director says she is looking for a temporary location and plans to raze the building and start construction on the new one. The center is also helping families find alternative day care for the rest of the week.
