Protesters at Sing Sing prison are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to release prisoners in danger of contracting COVID-19.
‘Make the Road New York,’ an immigration advocacy group, was among the organizers applying pressure on the governor.
Tatiana Hill, of Vocal New York, is in favor of the potential releases.
“…Please release people…if you release people from this prison, you are lessening the spread of the virus inside the facilities, as well as the community,” says Hill.
The protest comes about as state lawmakers return from Albany this week. Advocates are hoping the legislators will consider measures to grant clemency, medical parole and 90-day releases.
