The Ossining father accused of critically injuring his newborn daughter appeared in town court Thursday.
Manuel Zumba, an immigrant from Ecuador, is charged with second-degree assault for allegedly beating his 7-week-old daughter. His court appearance Thursday focused on who will provide legal representation for Zumba and how an investigation into his immigration status might ultimately override the abuse charges.
Zumba is expected back in Ossining Town Court Feb. 24 after being returned to Westchester County Jail. The baby remains at Westchester Medical Center.
