Community members in Ossining hosted a different kind of block party Wednesday aimed at promoting healthy eating habits.
Top chefs from around Westchester, including Peter Kelly and Rafael Palomino, used their skills to fight food insecurity in underserved communities through the project 'Food for Life.' One of the main goals of the project is to teach people how to prepare healthy foods in simple ways and improve access to healthy foods in communities that need it the most.
"This is a program that can really be better by joining together with other people," says Ossining Police Chief Kevin Sylvester. "So this is us with the school district and then we grabbed just about every community service organization we could find and bring as many resources to the community as possible."
Chef Kelly says the program tries to get people to think of vegetables in a different way to help promote healthier eating habits.
This is the first Ossining block party, and organizers hope to continue the tradition.
