The Green Organic Market in Hartsdale says it's thrown out about $40,000 in food since it lost power Wednesday -- evidence that extended power outages can damage livelihoods.

The store also lost $36,000 in missed revenue, according to manager Wang Chu.

"Then the employees, payroll, everything -- it's insane," he says.

The power outage at the store has affected dozens of neighbors, too.

"It's been torture," says Avenal Powell, who lives at Marion Kourt Manor on South Central Avenue. "I pay my bills on time, all the time, and I have trust in Con Edison. For them to actually not have power and keep their end of the bargain, it's crazy."

Powell and other neighbors say they were told by Con Ed that they'd have power restored Thursday. On Friday, they were still in the dark.
