An Orange County mom is warning other parents about what she says are broken child safety caps on some children’s Equate brand ibuprofen she bought at Walmart in Newburgh.
"I feel it. You think it works but for some reason it just spins right off," said Lana Rumore, from Salisbury Mills.
The 34-year-old mom shared her experience on TikTok and showed her toddler opening an empty bottle after she says the 23-month-old got ahold of the medicine and managed to open it.
Rumore says her toddler ingested some of the medicine last month and spilled the rest on the floor.
She now wants other parents to be aware that the caps might not work properly and to check their bottles at home.
"Child proof should be child proof," said Rumore. "Luckily, my husband was there changing her twin sister and my daughter, so my daughter wasn’t drinking the entire bottle because to her it tastes good."
Rumore says she bought a second bottle of the medicine to check the child safety cap which also didn’t work.
A representative for Walmart said the customer should call the number on the back of the bottle, but didn't say if anyone else had reported broken child safety caps.
Rumore said she did call the number on the back of the bottle but has not heard back.
