The pandemic did not stop Orange County residents from gathering Friday in honor of the 44 community members who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Bill Bratton lost his daughter Michelle on that tragic day 19 years ago. On Friday, he recounted their final moments on the phone.
"Michelle had been caught in an elevator at the time of the impact," said Bratton. "Mary and I, hopeful as always, discussed avoiding the elevators, staying together with her peers, helping each other out and beginning that decent to safety. We expressed our love for each other for the final time."
Residents say it is an important day to remember, no matter hard that may be.
