An Orange County teen was arrested for allegedly making credible threats against his school.

The Washingtonville High School student is facing a number of charges, including making a terroristic threat and two counts of falsely reporting an incident.

The planned attack at Washingtonville High School was thwarted by authorities. Washingtonville police worked with the FBI, state police and Middletown police to arrest Brendan Vaughan, a student at the high school.

Investigators say they discovered evidence inside his home on Hamptonburgh Road in Campbell Hall.

They say the 18-year-old was in the planning stages of some sort of attack at the high school and posed a threat to public safety.

The Washingtonville police chief said in a statement, “We are confident if not for the vigorous work by the investigators involved, and the cooperation of the district, this threat could have resulted in a catastrophe."

Vaughan remains in Orange County Jail.
