Orange Co. DA releases indictment against Graswald
Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler released a six-page indictment Tuesday accusing Angelika Graswald of killing her fiance, Vincent Viafore.
Officials recovered Viafore's body last Saturday from the Hudson River. Viafore, 46, of Poughkeepsie, was last seen on April 19 kayaking with Graswald.
"We believe that there are witnesses perhaps to the incident who would have information useful, particularly who saw them leave the area of Plum Point earlier in the day and may have seen them at other locations in the Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, New Windsor area on the date the original incident occurred," said Hoovler.
The indictment charges Graswald with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. It accused Graswald of killing her fiance by tampering with his paddle and removing a plug from his kayak so that it would fill with water.
Hoovler said that the indictment is just an accusation, and that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.
Graswald is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning.
