One person is dead after a Hillcrest home went up in flames early Wednesday morning.

It happened at a home on Christa Lynn Drive around 1 a.m.

Firefighters say they found someone dead inside while they were putting out the flames.

Neighbors say they never saw people in the home.

Police say the eight bungalows were abandoned and uninhabitable, but have a long history with squatters.

The shack was filled with clothes, a couch, shoes and food on the floor. Another home had clothes and food.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. They are also working to identify the victim.
