Members of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. spent time at “Friendship for Tots” reading to students.
More than 100 students of the Mount Vernon School District were read to by the fraternity members.
The campaign is backed by the Mount Vernon School District and was created to show youth the importance of reading.
Dr. Collie Edwers, the director of Friendship for Tots, says members of the fraternity are going to schools around the county today to encourage children that literacy is the foundation of education.
"We want them to see successful black men who are college-trained educated men come and encourage them to push them to where we are,” says Edwers.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has been around for 100 plus years, and members say they will continue to support the community of Mount Vernon.
