Officials say that a woman died in a house fire in Yonkers on Thursday.
The fire occurred at 7 William St. around 11 a.m.
Ramon Demora was on his was to Connecticut when he received a call from his friend saying that smoke was coming from the side of the house.
"While that call came in, we already had a multiple-alarm fire burning on Warburton Avenue. We had multiple companies tied up there also on Cerrado Lane. We had a smoke condition, and we had companies there ventilating the building, so we had a bit of a delayed response getting here," said Deputy Chief Joseph Delashio, of the Yonkers Fire Department.
When they did arrive on William Street, News 12 was told there was heavy fire coming from the basement. Once inside, they found the 51-year-old victim in the basement. Crews pulled her out and initiated CPR.  She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, the woman who died was not a resident of the building
News 12 has been told that at least three families were displaced as a result of the fire.
