Westchester officials are reminding boaters of important safety tips while out on the water this summer
County Executive George Latimer and members of the Westchester County Marine Unit, which is part of the county police department, met Monday to talk about boating safety.
They are warning boat owners to remain cautious, be aware of their surroundings and to follow the rules and regulations of the water.
Some of those rules include not speeding, especially when driving underneath the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. Officials urge boaters to keep speeds low underneath the bridge at all times. Another rule is no driving a boat while intoxicated, which carries similar fines and punishment as it does for drivers on the road.
Officials also remind boaters to make sure to have life jackets, fire extinguishers and flares on board in case of an emergency.
