Dozens of emergency officials spent hours searching for a boat in distress on the Hudson River Sunday only to find that it may have been a hoax.
According to Piermont officials, a call came into the New York Coast Guard around 2:30 p.m. for a vessel in distress near the Gov. Mario Cuomo Bridge.
After a two-hour search, officials say they found nothing.
“A lot of resources. A lot of resources for a call. We take every call very seriously. That's why after two hours, we confirmed with the Coast Guard that they were going to disband the search. And we have to leave it at that. Hopefully, we don't get a call that somebody is missing,” says Piermont Fire Department Chief Donald Hardy.
Officials say the call was made by someone that sounded like a child.
