White Plains Mayor Tom Roach and Westchester County Executive George Latimer on Wednesday unveiled a new on-site food scrap composting facility.
The new facility is at the Gedney Way Recycling Yard, which is an expansion to the city of White Plains' current composting operations.
This on-site composting facility aims to further reduce its carbon footprint, eliminating the transportation of food scraps to an off-site location.
"This is a great example, as the county executive indicated, of working together as governments to make things better,” said Roach. “And we're happy to be I hope a model for other communities to take this on because when you come out here and look at it like we can do that and that's the idea."
The city of White Plains is also asking residents when dropping off their food scraps to refrain from using compostable bags.
