Officials: Swastikas found in SUNY Purchase dorm
Officials with the State University of New York Purchase say swastikas were found inside a dormitory this past week.
They say the symbols were painted on the wall and door of a dorm room on Wednesday. The Westchester County Crime Scene Unit temporarily closed off the room as they investigated.
The school sent an email out to its 4,000 students to alert them to the incident. In the statement, college President Thomas Schwartz condemned the act, calling it "unacceptable and an assault on the values of our community."
Some students who spoke to News 12 say there have been some racially charged issues on campus lately, and that there is a culture of intolerance that needs to be addressed.
Schwartz says the incident is being investigated as a felony. Anyone with information regarding the act is asked to contact university police.
