Several families are homeless after two separate fires in Yonkers.

Fire officials say they received a call for a building fire on Hawthorne Avenue around 9:45 p.m. Thursday night.

Officials say when they got on the scene they saw smoke coming from the rear of the building up by the roof.

Crews found the flames on the third floor and say it was starting to spread to an enclosed attic area.

About 45 firefighters worked the scene of the fire and were able to get the flames extinguished fairly quickly.

The three families living in the building got out safely.

Fire crews also responded to a fire earlier in the day on Thursday.

Fire officials say that fire happened in the afternoon on Highland Avenue.

Authorities say everyone got out of the building safely.

No injuries were reported in either fire. Families have not yet been able to go back into their homes. News 12 is told that they are communicating with the Red Cross.

There are no reports on the cause of the fires at this time.
