Officials push for new Internet drug purchase rules
A Scarsdale assemblywoman is pushing for stricter guidelines when it comes to purchasing prescription drugs over the Internet.
Amy Paulin?s request comes just days after the Mitchell Report was released, naming some of baseball?s stars as steroid users.
The report detailed how some players obtained their steroids. In some cases, it was as easy as buying them over the Internet.
?What the Internet does is it allows anybody, and particularly our youth, to go online and buy these products so easily,? Paulin said. She said her legislation will prevent the sale of prescription drugs over the Internet in New York, unless there is a direct physician-patient relationship. She said she hopes her proposal will help protect young people.
Some high school athletes said they won?t let themselves go down the dangerous route some of their role models chose to take.
?We?re here to either work hard or go home,? James Brundage, an Ossining High School athlete, said. ?We come to the weight room five days a week.? Brundage is the captain of both the wrestling and football teams.
Brundage and his co-captain for both teams, A.D. Dubray, said they are angry about the Mitchell Report?s findings.
?I was disappointed because I really don?t agree with it all,? Dubray said. ?I think steroid use is terrible and it just brings yourself down. It is saying you can?t really do it yourself.?
