Mayor Bill de Blasio joined health care officials at Bellevue Hospital Sunday to give an update on the condition of Ebola patient Dr. Craig Spencer.

According to officials, Dr. Spencer has entered the next stage of Ebola, known as the gastrointenstinal stage.

Spencer is said to be in stable but serious condition. He received plasma treatment Saturday and is said to have tolerated it well.

Spencer's fiancee, Morgan Dixon, was released from the hospital Saturday, but is under a mandatory 21-day quarantine at her Harlem apartment. She is Ebola-free, but cannot leave her home or have any visitors until the morning of Nov. 14.

The other two people that came in contact with Spencer when he returned from Guinea also remain under the 21-day quarantine.

De Blasio stressed that Ebola is extremely difficult to contract, and there is no need for the public to change their everyday habits.

He also said that the mistreatment of healthcare workers and nurses working on Ebola patients will not be tolerated.

"I will not accept any one disrespecting our nurses or other medical personnel, and anyone that stands in the way of their work, stands in the way of everything that we have to do in New York City to protect our people, and there will be consequences for those individuals," he said.
