Mount Vernon fire officials responded to a blaze Wednesday they say was most likely inadvertently set by a 5-year-old boy playing with matches.
Officials say the fire was quickly extinguished at about 2 p.m. after it ripped through the second floor of 419 S. Tenth Ave.
The boy, who was being watched by his babysitter, alerted a neighbor about the fire, officials say. All six people who were inside the house escaped without injury.
