It was a lucky escape for some firefighters in Orange County when the walls of a home on fire began collapsing around them.
The fire erupted late Monday afternoon at a house on Carter Road in New Hampton.
The fire chief tells News 12 the blaze apparently started in a large garage and quickly spread.
He says as firefighters tried to put out the fire, some cinderblock walls started to collapse.
All firefighters were ordered out.
Three teenagers were inside the home at the time.
One of them says the fire started in a car that had not been driven for three years.
No injuries were reported. The family is looking for a new place to live because the home is a total loss.
