Officials: Fire displaces 6 families in Chester
Six Chester families are displaced Saturday morning after a fire blazed through their townhouse community.
The flames damaged at least six homes at the housing complex on Whispering Hills Drive.
According to reports, the first signs of smoke were seen from the six-unit complex at around 6 p.m.
Officials say the fire and heat melted the exterior of the opposite complex, but there has been no internal damage to the building.
Officials say that no one was hurt.
A quick-thinking neighbor tells News 12 that the moment he pulled into the complex and saw flames, he called 911 and ran to knock on doors and make as many people aware of the fire as possible.
The fire and water cleanup and restoration crews have been on the grounds clearing the houses and boarded up the building – the first step in the process of assessment and restoration.
The Red Cross assisted the families with temporary housing.
Fire officials say the cause is still under investigation.
