An off-duty NYPD officer is lucky to be alive after colliding with a car while riding his bicycle in Yonkers Saturday.
Forty-seven-year-old Tom Chiudina, of Yonkers, was riding his bicycle with his friend Joseph Colon. Police say a woman was making a left turn and apparently hit Chiudina at the intersection of Arlington and Central Park avenues. Chiudina was taken to the hospital with internal bleeding and several broken ribs.
The intersection has been the scene of many accidents and was deemed one of the worst in the state. City leaders say they plan on announcing some changes to the intersection as early as next week.
