The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a special treat for kids who are home on winter break.
The Kids Week program is for parents who are looking to keep their kids busy on their days off from school.
News 12 is told that that there are three programs being offered on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
On Wednesday, there's a nature crafts workshop at the Van Cortlandt Nature Center where kids will create crafts using materials found outdoors.
On Thursday, kids can check out birds of prey, where they'll study red-tailed hawks with binoculars as park rangers explain their life cycles and habitats in New York City.
The program will conclude Friday at the Pelham Bay Nature Center where kids can participate in a winter scavenger hunt.
Urban Park Ranger Adriana Caminero says the program is a great way to get kids out of the house and away from the TV this winter break.
“It helps them connect to an outdoor space,” she says. “A lot of kids don't have that kind of opportunity to do these outdoor recreational activities.”
