New York lawmakers are paying tribute to Sen. John McCain after his death Saturday night.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, "United States Sen. John McCain's strength and courage has been an inspiration to our nation. We, regardless of politics, can all admire the work he did for the greater good of our Country." Latimer also ordered all county flags be flown at half-staff.
Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said, "Sen. McCain lived his life with bravery and integrity and certainly was a role-model to me. He will always be remembered for his decorated career in the U.S. Navy and for being a true American patriot."
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino added to the remembrance, saying, "I had the honor of being with Sen. McCain many times and always enjoyed his stories and humor. I still have the letter he wrote me in 2005 wishing me luck in my first county executive race. He is the true definition of an American hero and an example of what a public servant should be."
Rep. John Faso said, "John McCain was an American patriot, dedicated to our constitution and the ideals it represents. His courage as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton will be long remembered. America has lost a dedicated and loyal son. May he rest in peace."
And Assemblyman James Skoufis said, "McCain leaves a legacy of loyal and unwavering service to the United States. This Democrat will miss him."
