The fight against the opioid epidemic continues in Orange County.
New York Attorney General Letitia James hosted a roundtable discussion in Newburgh this weekend.
Her office is currently suing major drug companies like Purdue Pharma and is seeking financial penalties and payments from the drug companies.
The companies are accused of improperly selling pain pills. “Every single day in the great state of New York nine people die as a result of opioid-related deaths,” says James.
“This is a groundbreaking lawsuit that the attorney general brought in the last 10 days, it will finally create some accountability for the companies that profit for years and individuals who profited for years off of the drugs that are behind this terrible epidemic,” says Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D).
