The New York Archdiocese was trying to win over support for its new realignment plan Thursday at a meeting in Yonkers.
Vicar General Bishop Dennis Sullivan met with pastors and principals at St. Joseph?s Seminary to try to answer questions concerning the new parish plan. Under the plan, four parishes and two Catholic schools in Westchester will close. However, the archdiocese wants to open new parishes in areas further north where it says Catholic populations are growing.
The closings won?t take effect until the end of April. Parents and teachers alike are working to stop the closure of additional schools in the county.
