The report released by state Attorney General Letitia James says Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed a female state trooper during a groundbreaking ceremony in Elmont for the new UBS Arena in 2019.
The arena is one of the governor's crowning achievements, helping to keep the Islanders on Long Island. Now it is part of an investigation by the acting Nassau district attorney.
According to the attorney general's report, Cuomo inappropriately touched the trooper assigned to his security detail on that day.
"The findings of this report, including what happened here in Nassau are reprehensible," says Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
Curran, who also played a key role in that ceremony, says the allegation now casts a shadow over an otherwise happy occasion.
"It was a joyful day. And now to know that according to the findings of the Attorney General Tish James that this was happening," says Curran "I think a lot of our residents find it pretty disgusting."
State Sen. Todd Kaminsky, who was also present at the event and is now running for Nassau DA, says the governor could be charged.
"It seems to me that whether it's forcible touching or sex abuse, there are crimes that they are going to be squarely investigating that happened right in Nassau," says Kaminsky.
District attorneys in Westchester, Manhattan and Albany have requested documents from the AG's report as well. Some of the incidents that allegedly happened in those counties involve the same state trooper.
