No-visitors policy at nursing homes to be lifted this week with restrictions

According to the state Department of Health, at least 472 nursing home residents died of COVID-19 in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Duchess counties.

The state Department of Health is lifting the no-visitors policy at nursing homes on Wednesday – much to the delight of families who have been wanting to visit their loved ones for months.
However, only facilities that have been COVID-19 free for at least 28 days will be eligible.
  • There will be other measures in place to keep the vulnerable residents safe.
  • The number of visitors will be limited to two people at a time.
  • All visitors will receive a temperature check.
  • Everyone will be required to wear face coverings.
  • Visitors and residents will be required to follow social distancing practices.
According to the state Department of Health, at least 472 nursing home residents died of COVID-19 in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Orange and Duchess counties. Westchester had the highest number of deaths at 260.
