NJ Transit: Man charged for driving SUV into Hoboken Terminal
A 46-year-old man was arrested Monday after he allegedly crashed a stolen New Jersey Transit Police SUV into the doors of the Hoboken Terminal train station.
A spokesperson for NJ Transit says that Santiago Brito-Avalos arrived in Hoboken on a 7:55 a.m. train, walked into a restricted area, and began checking to see what cars were unlocked.
Brito-Avalos found an NJ Transit Police K9 SUV with the keys still inside, got in and drove into the door, causing significant damage, according to officials.
Officials say that responding police officers had to pull Brito-Avalos through the window after he refused to unlock the door after the crash.
It was not believed that Brito-Avalos was intentionally trying to hurt anyone or that the incident was an attempted terror attack, according to officials.
Officials are looking into why the keys were left inside the police SUV.
