A man arrested for stealing a police SUV in New Jersey has ties to the Hudson Valley.
Authorities say Santiago Brito-Avalos took a train from Suffern to Hoboken earlier this week. He then found an unlocked K-9 unit with spare keys inside.
Brito-Avalos crashed the car into a rail terminal, badly damaging the waiting room doors.
The Mexican national is now facing burglary charges.
Reports say in 2016 he was arrested by Suffern police for throwing a statue through a church window.
