Police in Orange are investigating an apparent drowning in a pond at a popular park. 

Newburgh police say the victim, 22-year-old Alirio Mendez-Perez, was found face down in a Downing Park pond around 11:30 a.m.

The victim's family was notified and present at the scene.

News 12 was told someone at the park found the body and called police. 

Police say they have not found any signs of foul play at this time.

The park is off Route 9W and is part of several downtown revitalization efforts in the city. It has seen a surge in visitors in recent months. Neighbors say a children’s camp is held there as well.
