It was a somber day in Newburgh Saturday as the community gathered for the funeral of a local activist?s son who was killed in a police shootout.

According to police, 23-year-old Antonio Bryant, a convicted killer who was recently paroled, began shooting at officers after they followed his vehicle Monday. Police say the officer acted in self-defense. However, mourners at Bryant?s funeral aren?t buying that story. Many are accusing the police of being racist and say cops don?t care about the community.

Friends and family remembered Bryant as a good person who they called a ?stand-up guy.? Bryant?s uncle says what happened to his nephew is a civil rights and a humanitarian violation. Bryant's family is planning a peace vigil for Monday night in Newburgh where he was killed.
