Newburgh business cashes in on fireworks sales
For the first time in decades, some fireworks are now legal in parts of New York.
Business owners like Camille Esposito are wasting no time getting in on the fireworks craze.
A group of customers were at her stand in Newburgh Monday spending more than $200 on a bag of fireworks.
Under a recent change in state law, counties in New York can decide whether to lift the ban and sell fireworks that don't shoot off debris into the air. Such sparkling devices are permitted to be sold from June 1 to July 5, and again from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2.
Most fireworks still remain illegal to sell or possess in New York, according to the state police website.
