New York's original coronavirus outbreak epicenter is still fighting against the virus
In a blog post, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson says there are nearly 600 confirmed cases in the city. While the number is still too high, it is the lowest total in about a month.
Since mid-March, the highest concentration, with more than 90% of active cases, has been the central and southern parts of New Rochelle.
Bramson says those areas tend to be overcrowded, have residents who face language barriers, have preexisting health conditions , or are essential workers.
He says New Rochelle is planning for the recovery and renewal of the whole community, although the city has not reached the criteria to reopen yet.
