After a national search, acting New Rochelle Police Commissioner Joseph Schaller has been named the city's new top cop.
Schaller was sworn in as the official police commissioner during a ceremony Friday.
He replaces Patrick Carroll, who retired last year.
Schaller says he's excited for the future.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge of leading the department into its next chapter in its development," says Schaller. "Commissioner Carroll lent me a tremendous organization, and I just hope to follow up and expand on his accomplishments."
Moving up to deputy commissioner will be Capt. Robert Gazzola, who is currently head of the detective division.
