New Rochelle leaders work to end teen violence
In the wake of a melee involving teens, New Rochelle leaders gathered Saturday to try to find ways to stop the violence.A fight involving 60 to 100 teenagers broke out earlier in the week in the downtown area. Three teens were stabbed and two were arrested. Some city leaders and police officials said the fight was not the direct result of gang violence, however, many others disagree.
Community leaders from churches and the NAACP along with school officials got together to find ways to stop the spread of gangs and give young kids more positive options. Many say Tuesday's fight had a lot to do with growing tension between Latino and African-American teenagers in the city. One business owner said cracking down on youth violence should start by talking to the teenagers about the problems they are facing.
The group hopes to have similar meetings so they can get to the bottom of the growing problem of teen violence.
