The American Legion Post in New Rochelle held its annual Memorial Day event to honor those who lost their lives fighting for their country.
Food, music and a sign listing the names of 300 New Rochelle residents who made that ultimate sacrifice was held for veterans and their loved ones.
Veteran Cast Purcell says that Memorial Day means everything.
“If it wasn’t for the people who died for my freedom, I wouldn’t be able to serve out country and defend the rights of those who stand here today,” Purcell says.
Event organizer Peter Parente says the festivities allows military veterans and their families to get together after a year of cancelled events.
“That’s what Memorial Day is all about,” Parente says. “To remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our rights and freedoms.”
