New law will make gas prices easier to understand
A new law is about to be signed to end the confusion at the pump.
A bill sponsored by County Legislator Mike Kaplowitz and passed unanimously by the County Board of Legislators on Tuesday will make it easier for consumers to know exactly the cost of a gallon of gas.
The law now requires gas station owners to prominently display both the cash and credit price so it can be seen easily by drivers from the street.
Tony Smith, of Yorktown, drives to work in Stamford five days a week and says he is always on the lookout for the cheapest gas; "It's fairly important considering the high price of gas. In this day and age you should know what kind of deal you're getting or not getting if your paying credit or cash."
Gas stations owners will have 60 days from the day the law goes into effect to put up those signs. If they don't comply, they could be fined up to a $1,000 a day.
