New cancer treatment center opens in Cortlandt Manor
Cancer patients in northern Westchester can now access a new state-of-the-art oncology facility at the Hudson Valley Hospital Center. The Comprehensive Cancer Center provides chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and hospital officials say their efficiency may reduce the number of patients' trips. They say the area sees about 1,000 newly diagnosed patients each year. "If you do the math, 1,000 people doing 100 trips for radiation treatment," says Dr. Bill Higgins, president of the hospital's medical staff. "That's a lot of trips and a lot of inconvenience for patients living in the community." The center also provides counseling and support services, as well as early cancer detection screening.
