New efforts are being made in Westchester to ensure that residents - and their running water - stay safe.

Hudson Valley Rep. Mike Lawler announced on Friday that nearly $5 million in funding will go toward local police departments and clean water efforts.

Of that nearly $5 million, $2 million will go toward synthetic chemical mitigation in drinking water in Somers.

Over $800,000 will be allocated to the Mount Pleasant police department, $1 million will go toward a new central sewer system in Cortlandt and another $1 million will be used for critical water main replacement in Ossining.

"These were critical infrastructure projects and police communication projects that are vital to our communities," said Lawler. "It helps offset what property taxpayers would have to pay for these projects."
