A Nanuet business owner is afraid he's being pushed out by a popular restaurant chain that is moving in.
As if surviving as a business during the pandemic wasn't hard enough, James Barracato, of the Dawg House, says he has bigger fish to fry in the days ahead.
Shake Shack will be moving into the Rockland Plaza, a few hundred feet from Barracato's business.
Barracato says that shouldn't have happened because of an exclusivity clause in his lease with Brixmor Property Group.
The clause says the landlord will not lease space in the shopping center to a tenant whose primary use shall be the sale of hot dogs.
"If you take Shake Shack's menu and our menu, they're nearly identical," Barracato says.
Both restaurants serve burgers, chicken and milkshakes.
Barracato says he hopes they can reach an agreement so he won't have to leave his location.
A spokesperson for Brixmor says they are still in negotiations with Barracato to try to reach an equitable resolution.
