Happy birthday to hip-hop.
Hip-hop music will celebrate its 45th birthday Saturday.
The genre of music was created in the Bronx at 1520 Sedgewick Ave. in Morris Heights back in 1973.
It all started at a "back to school" event where DJ Kool Herc was performing.
Herc and fellow performer Coke La Rock are credited with creating what is now known as modern day hip-hop music.
The building where the party was held is recognized by the New York City's Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Society.
