#N12BK: ‘Fearless Girl’ statue moving
The 'Fearless Girl' statue is making a move.
The popular statue will be moved from the spot where it was installed last year, opposite the "Charging Bull" sculpture in Lower Manhattan.
The iconic statue will move about three blocks away, outside the stock exchange and facing the building, city officials say.
The bronze statue has captured the hearts of New Yorkers and tourists. Those who commissioned the design of statue say it is meant to call attention to a State Street Global Advisors initiative to increase the number of women on corporate boards.
More than 150 companies have added a woman to their boards since "Fearless Girl" was installed, according to recent reports.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has called the statue "a powerful symbol of the need for change at the highest levels of corporate America."
The creator of the statue, Kristen Visbal, commented in a press release by saying "I am thrilled Fearless Girl will remain in New York, inspiring global collaboration between genders for better decisions, and an improved environment at every strata of society."
However, a spokesman for the mayor's office, Eric Phillips, says the bull statue may also be moving.
